5th Basque Inclusion Conference

5th Inclusion Conference

Mikel Torres

On 11 June we are holding the 5th Annual Inclusion Day in Euskadi, organised by the Department of the Economy, Labour and Employment. The event is intended to reflect on the various aspects that shape inclusion policy and practice.

This year, we thought it would be a good idea to address the challenges faced by inclusion policies, due, on one hand, to their defining characteristic as intersectoral interventions, and, on the other, to the increasing complexity of society.

At a time when threats to inclusive policies are gaining ground, we believe it is necessary to develop discourses and tools allowing us to address complex situations of exclusion that cannot be tackled from a single perspective.

This 5th Inclusion Day will be held at the Miramar Palace in San Sebastián from 9.30am to 6pm, and will offer the chance to discuss intersectionality and ways of addressing complexity based on inclusion policies; to share best practices in addressing complexity by experimenting with mixed inclusion pathways; and to reflect on the construction of an intersectoral support model.

As in previous sessions, we will incorporate the perspectives of those participating in inclusion processes concerning the range of inclusion services and their ability to respond to the diversity of needs, as well as the social perception of the problems faced by people who require inclusion services. Finally, from the same viewpoint, we will take a deeper look at the social perception of anti-exclusion policies, with the help of experts.

This space for meeting and reflection, drawing on academic knowledge and comparison, professional insight and intervention, will help us continue to design policies focusing squarely on people and supporting them in their life journeys toward inclusion.

The event is aimed at inclusion professionals, public and private organisations, and individuals interested in this subject. We are sure it will be an event of great relevance when it comes to moving forward in developing public policies that will help reduce exclusion gaps.

We hope the event will be of interest to you.

Best regards

Promoted by the Basque Government’s Department of Economy, Labour and Employment, the V Inclusion Day will take place on 11 June at the Miramar Palace in Donostia/San Sebastian, in the Julio Caro Baroja room.

The Miramar Palace, also known as Palacio Real, is near La Concha bay in Donostia/San Sebastian. It is an English-style building named as a World Heritage Site and intended for cultural and artistic uses. The palace was built in 1893 and, with its history of more than a century, it has become one of the emblems of the capital of Guipuzcoa.

How to get there:

On foot: Google Maps(leiho berri batean irekitzen da)

Walking to the Miramar Palace from the centre of San Sebastian is an excellent option. You can enjoy a pleasant, 20-minute stroll along the coast overlooking the Cantabrian Sea amid the beautiful gardens surrounding the palace.

By bike:

The city has a bicycle rental system and a network of bike lanes that makes it easy to get around sustainably. There are pick-up stations near the palace, ideal for those who prefer to pedal.

Euskotren: website(leiho berri batean irekitzen da)

If you are coming from outside the city or from nearby towns, you can use Euskotren. The service connects several towns with San Sebastian, and from Amara station you can continue on foot or catch a city bus.

Bus: website(leiho berri batean irekitzen da)

San Sebastian has an efficient city bus network. Dbus routes 16 and 18 have stops near the Miramar Palace, at Paseo de Miraconcha 48, a few minutes’ walk from the entrance.

Car: website(leiho berri batean irekitzen da)

Check for nearby car parks, but, if possible, opt for public transport or bicycle to avoid complications.

Accessibility:

The Miramar Palace is accessible for people with reduced mobility. It has ramps and lifts that allow you to move comfortably both inside the building and in the gardens.
