Plaza Domingo Alegría , Gernika-Lumo
Eating snails at Christmas time is a deeply rooted tradition in many Basque homes. Several days before, on the first Saturday of December to be precise, Gernika-Lumo dedicates a day to the mentioned mollusc.
Thus, everyone approaching town will have the chance to taste portions of snails previously cooked in different ways such as "Biscayan style". Stands will display varied goods such as fruit and vegetables, Basque cake, bread, yoghurt, honey or pâté, among others. The fair completes with an exhibition of euskal dantzak (Basque dances) and children's activities.
