Catherine Wihtol de Wenden, Emeritus Research Director at CNRS, the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CERI, Institute for Political Studies), a political scientist and jurist by training, specialising in migrations, graduate of the Institute for Political Studies (Sciences Po) in Paris, Panthéon-Sorbonne Paris I University (two DEA postgraduate qualifications) and holder of a state doctorate in Political Science from Sciences Po. She has taught for 30 years at Sciences Po in Paris and in Lille, has supervised 25 successful theses and has written some twenty books and many articles in academic journals and the mass media, most recently: Figures de l'Autre, Perceptions du migrant en France 1870-2022,; CNRS Editions; Atlas des migrations (7th edition) , Autrement, 2025, Idées reçues sur les migrations, Le cavalier bleu, 2025; Immigration : indifférence, indignation, déshumanisation Autrement, 2025. She also taught abroad at La Sapienza University in Rome for 20 years, at LUISS in Rome and at the University of Padua, as well as at the State University in Milan. She has been a consultant for numerous organisations (the OECD, the European Commission and the HCR in Geneva), and from 2002 to 2008 headed the research group on "Migrations" at the International Sociological Association. She has also sat on the supervisory committee and board of directors of the Immigration Museum in Paris.
