The presence of the Basque Country in EXPO ZARAGOZA 2008 will have a double objective:
- To participate in the biggest world event to do with water, one of the priorities of the Basque Government whose policy was chosen as a case study in the 2nd United Nations Report on World Water Resources.
- To transmit to the EXPO visitors the nature of our relationship with Water, through our landscapes, our rivers and the sea.
his presence is managed by an interdepartmental committee, in which the Departments of Finance, Industry, Commerce and Tourism are all involved along with the Department of the Environment and Territorial Planning which is responsible for coordinating the committee.
The technical participation of the Basque Country in this international forum will be centred on a seminar on financing options and support for the aims of the United Nations Millennium Development Programme inWater and Sanitation, in which the cooperation of URA, the new Basque Water Agency, which is accountable to the Department of the Environment and Territorial Planning of the Basque Government, will play an important role. The Basque Country will also be represented in the week dedicated to "Water for Energy, Energy for Water" in which we will relate our experience with wave and tidal power.
In the catering area, situated on the ground floor of the area designated for the autonomous communities, the Basque Country will have a central location which will be managed by the Quality Foundation and which will basically be offering a range of food products with the Basque Quality Label. In front of the restaurant there will be a large seating area with a capacity for 1,250 diners.
