Located in a building dating back to the 15th-16th Century, El Portalón is one of the most prestigious restaurants of Vitoria-Gasteiz with Renaissance, Gothic and Mudejar outstanding features.
In past times, the restaurant operated as an inn for traders. The restaurant consists of six dining rooms of which four are private and where the best traditional cuisine is available to taste, as well as the delicious dishes cooked with the best quality products. Beans, wrinkles, snails, and the typical mushrooms from Alava are worth tasting.
Moreover, El Portalón is equipped with a winery that has excellent wines with Rioja protected designation of origin. The guests are allowed to choose the bottles in sittu.
El Portalón consists of several dining rooms with odd and interesting exhibitions of heraldic coats of arms from Alava, contemporary art and sculptures by artist Xabier Santxotena Alsua.
