Basque Culinary Center

The Basque Culinary Center incorporates the Faculty of Food Science at Mondragon Unibertsitatea (the first in the state) and an R&D research centre, the only one of its kind in the world. The centre (covering an area of 15,000 square metres) is located in the San Sebastian Technology Park. The centre aims to promote training, research, innovation and transfer of knowledge and technology in the various areas of food science. Training courses offered at the centre include the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Degree (official university degree) and the Master's Degree in Innovation and Restaurant Management. It also runs courses in continuing education and training (courses aimed at all types of professionals involved in some way with food) and courses are held for food enthusiasts at the BCulinary Club. Additionally, the Centre for Research and Innovation in Food and Gastronomy is conducting six lines of research: education and eating habits, social alimentary responsibility, food trends, innovation in the management of companies within the sector, developing associated technologies and processing, presentation and preservation of food. Awards The Basque Culinary Center has won third prize at the (Work of the year) Awards 2011, issued by the website Plataforma Arquitectura. It was also one of the finalists at the Building of the Year Awards, granted by the website ArchDaily.
