Carbureibar S.A. is a company located in Abadiano (Vizcaya) and is a member of the Kolbenschmidt Pierburg AG group.
Carbureibar S.A employs 320 people and manufactures components used for the reduction of polluting emissions, air supply and braking systems used by the motor industry.
Carbureibar S.A was established in Eibar in 1957. It began manufacturing Zenith carburators under license and in 1991 it joined the Pierburg Group.
In 1993, with the introduction of the new European Directive on emissions, car manufacturers stopped implementing carburation systems in engines and started using injection systems. Supported by the Pierburg Group, Carbureibar found itself having to adapt to the new market situation and to new customer needs and began a process of product and process updating that has led the company to become an essential partner in the motor industry as far as quality and customer service are concerned.
Currently, Carbureibar is certified with ISO TS 16949:2002 and ISO 14001. It has a turnover of 153 million euros, with a market share of over 60% and manufactures 12 million components per year that supply to all European car manufacturers, such as VW / AUDI/ SEAT/ SKODA, DAIMLER-CHRYSLER, GM/OPEL, ROVER, FIAT, RENAULT, NISSAN, FORD, PSA or VOLVO.
Product:
Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve
Air-fuel mixture combustion in an internal combustion engine generates pollutants (CO, HC, NOx, CO2 and particles) which are harmful for both the human being and the environment.
One of the systems used by the motor industry in order to reduce the emission of these pollutants is Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). This process involves diverting a certain amount of exhaust gases (waste gases from combustion in the engine cylinders of the vehicle) from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold, mixing them there with the air from the outside to be used in the combustion.
In order to operate the EGR, there is an "Electronic Control Unit" (ECU) that plays the role of "brain" of the engine and sends an electric signal (voltage) to the potentiometer of the EGR valve, prompting the opening of the valves up to a specific position depending on the relevant recycling requirements.
This is the function of this product. Even though EGRs were originally operated by means of a pneumatic system, the need to improve EGR response times and to adapt to the new requirements of the car manufacturers have led to a permanent effort to innovate both the product and the process. Nowadays, the range of this product includes Pneumatic EGRs, Electropneumatic EGRs, Electric EGRs (1st and 2nd generation) and the brand new Electromotorized EGR. As a result, this product has adapted to the different European Community Directives that require to increasingly reduce exhaust gas emissions to the atmosphere.
