Product :

Multi-purpose/ROV vessel with DPS2 dynamic positioning The main service to be rendered by this multi-purpose/ROV vessel is that of deploying a submarine operated from the vessel (ROV) that surveys and monitors existing subsea conduits and assists in the layout of future pipelines, while, at the same time, enabling minor repair and maintenance works.

The building of these highly versatile vessels for the offshore sector, a demonstration of the company's great capacity for meeting the highest technology and quality standards on the market, which has enabled Astilleros Balenciaga to become a worldwide reference of this type of vessels. Within this type of vessels, the "Grampian Surveyor" is worthy of mention. Delivered in 2003, this vessel has a DPS2 dynamic positioning system that enables it to keep a predetermined position by using its own propellers and without anchoring. For the vessel to keep this position, the system uses GPS, radio beacons located at the bottom of the sea or even a visual reference or structure on shore for references.

Apart from this dynamic positioning system, which is also present in similar vessels, the "Grampian Surveyor" incorporates a diesel-electric propulsion system by which propellers are driven by variable-speed electric engines. This type of propulsion offers great savings in fuel consumption and low noise levels in those vessels
equipped with this system and, particularly, in those incorporating dynamic positioning systems.

Diesel-electric propulsion is much more sophisticated than its diesel-mechanic counterpart (in which the propeller is directly driven by the engine) as the installation is more complex since it requires thorough coordination between all equipment suppliers: engine manufacturers, propeller, frequency converter, electric engine, alternator, electric assembly, automation system and DP manufacturers. This vessel can also supply liquid products and other materials required for oil rig operation.
