 What is Ondarenet?
The evolution of information technologies and the spreading popularity of the Internet are facilitating the digitization of undeniably significant historical, scientific and cultural bibliographic material and the production of born-digital documents, all requiring preservation for coming generations.
This situation has led to the birth of international projects aimed at collecting and conserving the web-engendered digital heritage, such as Pandora, Minerva, Internet Archives or Padicat.
Ondarenet, the Basque Digital Heritage Archive, endeavours to preserve and disseminate the Basque digital heritage, i.e. digital resources stemming from the knowledge or expression of Basque society in its multiple facets worthy of conservation for posterity.
The project took its first steps in 2007, spearheaded by the Basque Government Department of Culture with the backing and collaboration of EJIE (the Basque Government IT services company)
Information is captured, conserved and organised with International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC)-approved tools compliant to international standards. The toolkit comprises: Heritrix, NutchWAX, WebCurator y Wayback.
