¿Omen¿ partikularen esanahia eta erabilera aztertzen du lan honek. Horretarako, semantikako eta pragmatikako teoria batzuk (Griceren (1967) elkarrizketaren teoria, Searleren (1969) hizketa-ekintzen teoria eta Korta & Perryren (2007, 2011) pragmatika kritikoa) eta horietako hainbat kontzeptu eta tresna hartu dut bidelagun. Orain artean ¿omen¿i buruz esandakoa abiapuntu hartu, eta horietako gauza batzuk baztertuz eta beste batzuk konponduz eta zehaztuz egin dut ¿omen¿dun perpausaren esanahiaren eta erabileraren gaineko nire proposamena. Iturri batetik baino gehiagotatik edan dut metodologiari dagokionez ere: corpuseko adibideez eta nire intuizioari jarraiki sortutakoez gain, hainbat subjekturi egindako testak baliatu ditut, pragmatika esperimentalari leku eginez. Ondorioztatu dut berri emateko partikula dela ¿omen¿, hiztunaren informazio-iturriaren berri ematen duena, eta hari egotzi izan zaion ziurtasunik ezaren edukia ¿omen¿dun esaldiaren bidez sor litekeen elkarrizketa inplikatura orokortua dela, eta ez ¿omen¿dun perpausaren esanahiaren parte. Horrez gain, ondorioztatu dut proposizio-edukiei ekarpena egiten dien gisan aztertu behar dela.

This work analyses the meaning and use of the Basque particle omen. For that purpose, I make us of several semantic and pragmatic theories (Grice¿s (1967) theory of conversation, Searle¿s (1969) speech-act theory, Sperber and Wilson¿s relevance theory (1986/1995) and Korta & Perry¿s (2007, 2011) critical pragmatics) and some concepts and tools they offer. I have taken what it can be called the ¿standard¿ view on omen as a basis, and excluding certain things, modifying others and making some things clearer and more precise, I have been able to make my proposal on the meaning and use of omen. As far as methodology is concerned, as well, this work combines different tools: the intuition, examples of the corpora and the tests done by various subjects (experimental pragmatics). I conclude that omen is a reportative particle, related to the speaker¿s information source, and that the content of uncertainty often attached to it is a generalized conversational implicature, and not part of the meaning of the omen-sentence. Besides that, I conclude that omen has to be analysed as contributing to the propositional contents of the utterance.
