|Hondarrezko hondartzak, itsaslabarrak eta kostaldeko plataforma arrokatsuak dira mundu osoko kostaldeetako ezaugarri nagusienak, zeinak gaur egun hainbat altueratan aurkitzen diren. Elementu hauek, itsas mailaren aldaketen eta mugimendu bertikalen bidez definituta daude, tektonikoak eta isostatikoak barne, eta kostaldeko paisaiaren bilakaera historikoari buruzko datu baliotsuak eskaintzen dituzte. Gaiari buruz argitaratutako datu kopurua urria izan arren, azterketa zehatza merezi dute euskal kostaldeko iraganeko kostaldeko plataforma arrokatsuek. Testuinguru horretan, doktorego tesi honek eremu horren Plio-Kuaternarioko bilakaera aztertzen du, itsas mailaren aldaketetan eta gainazal kontinentalaren mugimendu bertikaletan arreta jarriz. Horretarako, azaleratutako zein urperatutako erliebeak aztertu dira, iraganeko kosta-lerroak eta iraganeko kostaldeko plataforma arrokatsuen (IKPA) kokapena eta altuera zehaztuz. Azterketak, urpean dauden 13 terraza detektatu ditu, gaur egun urpean dauden iraganeko kosta-lerroei dagozkienak. Azaleratutako eremuan berriz, iraganeko 18 plataforma arrokatsu definitu dira. Azaleratutako eremuari dagokionez, aire zabaleko guneetako 6 sedimentu metakin ezberdin eta 8 kobazulo aztertu dira iraganeko itsas mailaren altuera erlatiboak zehazteko. Dataziorako, optikoki estimulatutako luminiszentzia (OEL) eta U/Th teknikak erabili dira, 14 sedimentu lagin eta 17 espeleotemetan. Azterketek IEI 5e-ko sekuentzia transgresibo-erregresiboak eta, gutxienez IEI 6tik, harea eoliarren birlanketak bereiztea ahalbidetu du. Horietako batean, gutxienez, ondo garatutako hiru ziklo pedogeniko definitu dira, klima-fase epel eta hezeekin lotura eduki dezaketenak. Jasotako datuek, Kantauriar kostaldeko beste metakin batzuekin batera, antzeko bilakaera tektonikoa baieztatzen dute IEI 5e-tik gaurdaino. Gorakada, izatekotan, minimoa litzateke. Urpeko datuek ere egonkortasun epe luze bat iradokitzen dute: IEI 11ko itsas maila altuaren eta IEI 9aren hasieraren arteko momenturen batetik, gaur egunera arte. Hortaz, altxatze tektonikoa Pliozeno/Miozenoaz geroztik gertatu zitekeen, modu homogeneo batean, ikerketa eremuan kota altuan dauden iraganeko plataformen antzeko altitudeak erakusten duten bezala. Azken pultsoa, IEI 11ko itsas maila altuaren eta IEI 9aren hasieraren arteko momenturen batean gertatuko zen. Altxatzeak aurretik urperatutako eta azaleratutako plataforma arrokatsuei eragin zien, 5 metro inguruko gorakada eraginez. Horrez gain, azken maximo glaziarretik gaurdainoko kosta-lerroaren bilakaera aztertu da, eta egungo kostaldearen aldaketa posibleen ebaluazioa egin da, azken urteetako lur mugimenduak identifikatzea ahalbidetu duten bi metodologia erabiliz. Hau horrela, mendebaldeko itsasertzak hasierako konfigurazioan forma sigi-sagatsua zuen, eta ekialdeko itsasertzak berriz, lurmutur handi bat. Denboran zehar aldaketak izan diren arren, kostaldeak azken 12.000 urtetan gutxi gorabehera, gaur egungo formari eutsi dio.Sandy beaches, cliffs, and rocky shore platforms are the primary characteristics of current coastlines worldwide, which nowadays are found at various altitudes. These features are shaped by changes in sea level and vertical movements, including tectonics and isostatics, and offer valuable insights into the historical evolution of coastal landscapes. Despite the scarcity of published data on the subject, the ancient rocky shore platforms along the Basque coast merit comprehensive study. In this context, this PhD thesis examines the Plio-Quaternary evolution of the area, with a focus on sea level variations and vertical land movements. For that purpose, analysis have been conducted on both emerged and submerged reliefs, including the location and height of ancient shorelines and ancient rocky shore platforms (ARSP). The analysis has detected 13 submerged terraces, which correspond to past coastlines that are currently submerged. In the emerged area, 18 ancient rocky shore platforms have been defined. Regarding the emerged area, 6 different sediment deposits in open-air locations and 8 caves underwent examination to determine the relative heights of ancient sea levels. Optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) and U/Th techniques have been employed for dating purposes, applied to 14 sediment samples and 17 speleothems. The studies enabled the recognition of transgressive-regressive sequences from MIS 5e and redeposits of aeolian sands since at least MIS 6. In one of them, at least three well-developed pedogenic cycles have been defined, which can be associated with temperate and humid climatic phases. The collected data, along with other Cantabrian margin deposits, confirm a similar tectonic evolution since MIS 5e until nowadays. The uplift, if present, would be minimal. Data from the submerged area also suggests a prolonged period of stability: since a moment in between the MIS 11 highstand and the beginning of MIS 9, until the present. The uplift is likely to have been persistent since the Pliocene/Miocene in a homogeneous way in the study area, as the similar heights of the highest ancient platforms suggest. The last pulse would have occurred during somewhen between the MIS 11 highstand and MIS 9 onset. The uplift impacted the preceding submerged terraces, as well as the exposed rock platforms. This event prompted a land uplift of roughly 5 metres. Furthermore, the evolution of the shoreline from the last glacial maximum until the present has been examined, and an assessment was carried out on current coastline variations using two methodologies that identified recent years land movements. It was noted that the western shoreline had a sinuous shape in its initial configuration, whereas the eastern shore had a big headland. Despite changes over time, the coastline has consistently maintained its current form for approximately 12,000 years.
