The flysch of Zumaia, world geological heritage

The Basque Coast Geopark hosts the presentation of the list of the top 100 places of greatest geological interest in the world.

Between October 25 and 28, the International Congress of Geological Sciences will be held in Zumaia, an event where a program is being presented to designate geological places of world interest.

The flysch of Zumaia is among the top 100 world geological heritage sites and, in addition, this year the Geopark has managed to renew its recognition as a World Geopark by UNESCO for another four years.

This phenomenon is an abrasion surface caused by the erosion of the sea. The flysch is formed by different layers of limestone and sandstone rocks, in the form of millefeuilles.
