The increase in the number of American tourists in recent years has prompted the creation of this direct route.
The possibility of a direct connection between the Basque Country and the United States has been debated for more than two decades, but it has been the increase in the number of American tourists to Bilbao and the Basque Country that has prompted this initiative. United Airlines has seen the multiple benefits of this connection and has established three weekly return flights.
These flights will start next summer season 2025, between 1 June and 24 September. Specifically, there will be three flights departing from Bilbao on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 12:30 in the morning and arriving at Newark airport at 15:00 local time. The return flights will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
This connection is expected to continue the upward trend in the number of American tourists and will strengthen the relationship between the two territories. It also means an improvement in travel comfort for those who want to take a non-stop flight from Bilbao to New York.
A strong commitment to the connection between the Basque Country and the U.S.
Normally, when an airline launches a new connection, it carries out a trial period with a weekly flight and, based on the success and the demand it observes, it increases or eliminates its offer. In this case, the US carrier is confident that its offer will respond to the ever-growing demand.
After several previous attempts to connect the Basque Country with a destination in the United States, this latest one is expected to be a success. Those already waiting for this connection will be able to fly directly to New York from June 2025.
