Simón Bolívar Museum is home to several collections that depict the lifestyle of Bizkaia's people in the Middle Ages and the life and political career of Simón Bolívar, the "Liberator" of several American countries.
The museum was inaugurated on July 24th 1983, coinciding with the bicentenary of his birth. Located in Ziortza-Bolibar, hometown of the forebears of the revolutionary leader, the town was previously known as La puebla de Bolibar when it belonged to the nearby Markina-Xemein. The Errementarikua farmhouse accommodates the museum next to the Saint James' Way.
The museum exhibits Bolivian iconography in the hall, while the first floor makes a tour through the Middle Ages: medieval lifestyle and landscape, the church in the Middle Ages, economic activities, ironworks and the foundation of the town. The second floor is entirely devoted to Simón Bolívar: his biography, genealogy, his trips to Europe, geography of the independence of the "Bolivarian" countries and other objects.
