Start: Azpeitia Arrival: Azpeitia

We recommend starting the adventure off in Azpeitia, in inland Gipuzkoa. There, you will have the chance to discover a universally known figure, that of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. You can visit the Loyola Tower House, where he was born, and will have the chance to admire the sanctuary that was built in his honour. The most striking feature of this sanctuary is its imposing basilica, which is one of the best exponents of the Basque baroque period.

If you are a lover of Renaissance Art, you simply must see the Capilla de la Soledad, or Chapel of Solitude, which belongs to the parish church of San Sebastian de Soreasu. This chapel is considered by many to be exceptional, due to its Renaissance style and the murals, high in historic and artistic value, which were unearthed during the restoration work that took place between 2002 and 2010.

Finally, we will take a journey through time at the Basque Railway Museum, where we will re-live the Basque Country's rail travel past on board an authentic steam train. We will find out about the trains that were created during the Industrial Revolution and will learn how the old electric trams worked.
